If you have a credit card and you have the funds to pay it off. You should call the credit card company and ask to speak to the manager. Make them an offer that is about 50 to 60% of the balance that you owe. They will usually settle with you for this amount. This could end up saving you alot of money.

#1 There is a down side, the write off is considered as INCOME by the IRS and you will have to pay income tax on it!
